GOLF DEVELOPMENT
Gower Golf Club evolved in response to the latent demand
for golf in Swansea.
As a consequence the Directors at the Golf Club are committed to
the expansion
of the game of golf to safeguard its primary activity
and to contribute something
to the local community.
In its early years, a whole new group of people took the opportunity
to enter the
game as complete novices and have now become accomplished
players and part
of the fabric of the club.
Perhaps more fashionably, the doors have been open to new youth
participation
in golf and by providing easy access to the game,
a whole wave of talent has
emerged from the junior ranks.
- Lee Lewis Welsh International & 1st
person to defend the Weetabix
British Championship title since Lee Westwood.
- Ben Fisher Welsh Team Reserve, currently pursuing
a career in
Golf Management.
- Laura Weatherill Captain of Welsh Girls
Team at Schools level.
- The Current junior team has won the Glamorgan & Welsh
Inter-club
championship to represent Wales at the prestigious
La Manga Club
in Spain in the British play-offs.
Gower Golf Club has now become
established as the base for the Gorseinon College
"Elite Golf Programme" where
talented golfers receive the opportunity to hone their
skills. We plan a positive approach to developing junior golf
in the future with the
progressive upgrade of the practice facilities
to provide
all-weather tuition areas
and specialist improvement areas.
This will enable a whole new level of golfing opportunity at Gower
Golf Club and
secure continued access for further generations to enter
the game.
Junior Members - Introductory Passport
to Golf
It is the aim of the club to help all junior members achieve their
potential and
maximise their enjoyment of the game of golf. For this reason an “introductory
passport” has been introduced
for all new junior members.
All new members must undertake the introductory course of 5 lessons
with
Alan Williamson the golf professional.
The course contents include:
- Four lessons on technical aspects
- Setting up
- Golf Swing
- Putting
The final lesson will be “on course” on
golf etiquette and course management.
No limits or expectations are required to gain the passport. The
lessons are
building blocks only, to provide a foundation for further
development and
enhanced enjoyment of the game.
The membership fee paid in the first year includes
a contribution of £20.00
from the club towards the lessons however; a further £25.00
will be required
in addition to the membership.
The only exception to this is Tiger membership,
as this includes £40.00
towards lessons.
Please note all tigers must be accompanied by an adult on the course
unless
they have gained the introductory passport to golf (which
is discretionary for
under 12’s).
